Ingredients
- ¼ cup milk (warmed)
- 1 ½ teaspoons instant yeast
- 200 grams sourdough discard (unfed)
- 2 cups + 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 egg (lightly beaten)
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- Fresh parsley or rosemary (chopped)
- Garlic powder
- Kosher salt
Instructions
- Combine warmed milk, yeast, and sugar in a stand mixer bowl. Add flour, sourdough discard, egg, herbs, salt, and garlic powder. Mix on low speed.
- Gradually add melted butter and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 3–4 minutes until smooth.
- Place in a greased bowl covered with plastic wrap; let rise for 60–90 minutes until doubled.
- Prepare the topping mixture by mixing softened butter with herbs and garlic powder.
- Divide risen dough into 12 pieces; flatten each, spread with topping, fold, and place in a greased loaf pan.
- Let rise again for 30–45 minutes; preheat oven to 350°F.
- Bake uncovered for 30 minutes; cover with foil and bake an additional 5–10 minutes until golden brown.
