Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp Kashmiri/Himalayan green tea
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 12 star anise
  • 2 crushed cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • Sugar or honey to taste
  • Crushed nuts for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a saucepan and add green tea. Boil for about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in baking soda and continue boiling for another 2 minutes until water turns deep red.
  3. Add star anise, cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick; boil for 1 minute.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes until it reduces by half.
  5. Add salt and mix well.
  6. Pour in whole milk and bring to a boil while stirring continuously.
  7. Once the desired pink color is achieved, strain into cups.
  8. Sweeten with sugar or honey, garnish with crushed nuts if desired, and serve hot.
