  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast (optional)
  • 3/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp lime juice (or lemon juice)
  • 1 green hot chili pepper (finely chopped)
  • 1 Tbsp parsley (chopped or cilantro)
  • 3 Tbsp oil (for frying; coconut recommended)

Instructions

  1. Peel and thinly slice the onions using a sharp knife or mandoline.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, nutritional yeast, spices, water, and lime juice. Whisk until you achieve a medium-thick batter.
  3. Stir in the sliced onions until fully coated.
  4. Heat coconut oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Drop small portions of the batter-coated onions into the hot oil and fry for 2–4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
