Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 7-ounce container plain Greek yogurt
  • 15-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1.5 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon table salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken in yogurt and spices for at least 1 hour.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together all marinade ingredients except chicken until well-mixed; set aside.
  3. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels and cut into bite-sized chunks (about 1/2 to 1 inch).
  4. Stir the chicken chunks into the marinade until well-coated.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Heat a nonstick pan over high heat; no oil is needed.
  7. Add half of the marinated chicken chunks to the pan (along with any marinade sticking to them).
  8. Spread them out in the pan and cook until golden brown and slightly charred (a few minutes), stirring occasionally.
  9. Transfer cooked chicken to a large plate and repeat with remaining chicken.
  10. Reduce heat to medium.
  11. Add all sauce ingredients to now-empty pan; stir for about one minute until mixed well.
  12. Add seared chicken chunks (without drippings) back into the pan and submerge them in sauce without stirring.
  13. Bring sauce to a simmer; let it simmer for 20 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  14. Adjust heat as needed to maintain a light simmer; ensure chicken is cooked through and sauce has thickened slightly before serving.
